Window surrounds all cut out ready to be repaired

Lincoln’s Inn Repair & Restoration

Lincoln’s Inn – External restoration of the Great Hall and Library. Spring & Summer 2020 – ongoing

Client: The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn
Main Contractor: Capital Stone Renovation Ltd
Works: Complete repair and restoration of external brick and stone to all elevations.

The stone surrounds to the upper levels of the windows on the Great Hall have not been repaired or restored in living memory so they were not in good condition.

Our masons and the client marked off all the areas to be repaired and produced schedules of the necessary works, whilst on site these areas were cut back to sound.

Once the areas had been cut out the stainless steel wire used for reinforcing is drilled and resin fixed into position to support the new repair works.

The carefully matched and pre-prepared restoration mortar is then applied in layers to build up the repair – this is a highly skilled job especially on the curved window surrounds.

Finally the last layer of repair mortar is added and the area is married in to the adjacent stone, hopefully to last another 60 years!
